How can search operators be used?

Global Search allows users to build search criteria using operators for precise searching. These search operators are:



Common search types
The first three operators described above are the most used, by far. The most common type of precision search is the AND operation. For example, a user may want to find documents which contain the word fan and the word blade. To do this, simply type the two words with the plus-sign character between them:

The AND operation is also the default type used by Global Search. This means that searching for fan blade results in the same documents returned as searching for fan+blade.


The next most-common search type is the NOT operation (aka "term exclusion" operation). This would be used to find documents where the first search term is present, but the second search term is not present:

The OR operation returns any document which contains either of the search terms and is executed when | ("pipe" character) is used between the search terms:
